IMPORTANT DONOR INFORMATION

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO DONORS

Donors like yourself are the lifeline of the Farmworker Caravan. The majority of our funding comes from individuals who help us make a difference in the lives of farmworker families. We are reaching out to you now because we have learned that some donor checks may have been lost in transit. If you have a check that was never cashed or an envelope that was, “returned to sender” please read the following.

ONLINE DONATIONS

All donations made online through FarmworkerCaravan.org or SanJoseParks.org were unaffected and we thank you for your continued support.

OFFLINE DONATIONS

Donations and correspondence sent to San Jose Park Foundation, P.O. Box 53841, San Jose, CA 95153 may not have been delivered to us between January 2025 through the present.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The San Jose Parks Foundation, who acts as our fiscal sponsor, was going through a managerial transition when they closed their P.O.Box and opened a new P.O. Box in January of 2025. This change was not discovered until November 2025 when donations were being sent in memory of Rudy Tenes who is the father of Darlene Tenes, the Executive Director of Farmworker Caravan. Although the San Jose Parks Foundation requested a forwarding order it was discovered that some mail may not have been delivered and/or lost. We are notifying you as we have some donors recently inform us that their checks were returned to them by the U.S. Post Office.

WHAT IS A FISCAL SPONSOR?

The San Jose Parks Foundation has acted as the fiscal sponsor for the Farmworker Caravan since December 2021 taking legal and financial responsibility for the funds it receives on behalf of our organization. A fiscal sponsor is an established 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization that extends its legal and tax-exempt status to a separate project or unincorporated group. This allows the project to safely accept tax-deductible grants and donations before or instead of forming its own independent nonprofit corporation.

WHAT’S NEXT?

The Farmworker Caravan has taken the recent actions:

  1. We have opened our own P.O. Box for us to receive all donations directly,
  2. We have begun the process of becoming our own 501C3 nonprofit,
  3. We will continue the Farmworker Caravan's mission to acknowledge, support and uplift agricultural workers who help to feed the world.
