OVERVIEW

__________________________________________

The Farmworker Caravan began in 2020 as a grassroots effort by individuals led by Darlene Tenes to provide emergency supplies to these oft-forgotten essential workers during the pandemic. Farmworker Caravan’s work has exploded as California farmworkers were working during heatwaves, wildfire smoke and throughout the pandemic for long hours with little pay to keep food on the tables of everyone across America. The Farmworker Caravan also serves as a convener, networker and cohesive thread in building the capacity of groups working with Farmworkers to get the resources they need to be more successful.

With this role in mind the Farmworker Caravan is organizing a summer weekend retreat to convene agricultural workers, nonprofit and key influential leaders to learn, share and imagine innovative ways to make a significant impact on farmworkers and their families’ lives. There will be training opportunities for individuals and groups to increase their skills and knowledge to be more effective in uplifting the issues, conditions, and policy barriers that affect farmworkers and their impact on our agricultural community.

Nonprofit agencies, community leaders, elected officials and their staff will be invited to attend the educational sessions on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, Campesinas en Paz will focus on a one-day retreat, open to all female farmworkers to relax, refresh, reflect and rejuvenate their spirit. Our goal is to provide a space for these leaders to become stronger advocates, service providers and leaders in Farmworker Equity.
